Lewis and Harris Auction Mart held its first sale of the 2024 season on Wednesday 21st August. The sale, held in conjunction with our partners at Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., saw the auction of 3964 store lambs and sheep of all categories. There was an excellent show of quality lambs and prices saw very significant increases on the equivalent sale last year. Average lamb prices on the day were up 22.7% on the August sale last year, increasing by £11.62 to an average of £62.89. Prices remained strong throughout the sale, with several pens breaking the £100 mark. Lamb prices peaked at £115 and sheep at £130.
Lambs (3,755) averaged £62.89 and sold to £115 for a pen of Suffolk Crosses from 130 Balallan. Feeding Sheep (172) sold to £130 for a Texel cross from 10A Holm, Stornoway. Gimmers (37) sold to £88 per head for a pen of Blackfaces from 7B Shader, Point.
