Sale Conditions Only stock that has been booked in advance can be sold on sale day. All stock presented for sale remain the responsibility of the seller until the sale has been completed. Stock must be accompanied by the seller or their nominated representative when they go into the ring or the stock will be passed to the end of the sale or may not be sold. Sale transactions are conducted by Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd and sellers are expected to adhere to their conditions of sale.
Sale Order The 2024 sale order is yet to be confirmed and will be published her upon agreement.
Documentation Requirements In addition to normal movement documents/passports, it is a legal requirement for slaughterhouse operators to have food chain information (FCI). To comply with these requirements a signed declaration should accompany all stock to market, which includes the required food chain information.
The back of the movement document page contains an FCI declaration form. This must be completed and submitted with the movement document when taking animals to market.
Veterinary Attestation Number New advice for 2024 onwards is that all producers not registered for a recognised quality assurance scheme are advised to have a Veterinary Attestation Number (VAN). This number should be provided at the point of booking and recorded on your FCI/Movement document when delivering stock to market.
The purpose of a vet attestation is to comply with export requirements to verify the absence of notifiable disease and provide general advice on farm biosecurity. It is a requirement for any stock being sold at market where the animal, meat or animal-based product may be exported to the European Union.
Veterinary Attestation Numbers are valid for a 12-month period and must be renewed annually. It is the responsibility of the producer to ensure that they have a current and valid number when presenting stock for sale. It is possible to sell stock without a valid VAN but it may significantly affect the price achieved as they cannot then be exported/slaughtered in the EU.
Producers that are already active members of an assurance scheme such as Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) do not need to have a Veterinary Attestation Number as their membership of the scheme already provides compliance and the membership number is used in place of the VAN.
